{"id":165,"date":"2015-03-01T16:19:58","date_gmt":"2015-03-01T21:19:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/azelvandre.net\/artistseye\/?p=165"},"modified":"2015-03-01T16:19:58","modified_gmt":"2015-03-01T21:19:58","slug":"featured-painting-of-the-week-skandha-3-torso-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/azelvandre.net\/artistseye\/2015\/03\/featured-painting-of-the-week-skandha-3-torso-3\/","title":{"rendered":"Featured painting of the week: Skandha 3 (Torso 3)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This week&#8217;s featured painting is <em><strong>Skandha 3 (Torso 3)<\/strong><\/em>, a figurative piece I created late in 2013. \u00a0I mentioned my figurative work earlier in the week in <a title=\"New items for sale through Etsy\" href=\"http:\/\/azelvandre.net\/artistseye\/2015\/02\/new-items-for-sale-through-etsy\/\">my post<\/a> about new Etsy listings. \u00a0This week&#8217;s featured oil painting is among the larger figurative works I&#8217;ve done and this one explores an interesting geometric expression of the figure, almost a kind of mapping or &#8216;landscaping&#8217; of the human form. \u00a0The title draws on Sanskrit Buddhist technical terminology. \u00a0At root the word &#8220;skandha&#8221; means &#8220;trunk&#8221; as in a tree-trunk. In Buddhist philosophy it refers to the constituent parts of human consciousness, of which physical form is an important part.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_167\"
